Designer Stefan Diez

Before his career as a designer Stefan Diez completed a carpentry apprenticeship, and also spent a year in India where he designed furniture and thus developed his craft.

From 1996 to 2002 Diez studied at the Stuttgart State Academy of Fine Arts, a period that also included an internship in Richard Sapper's studio. Following his studies Stefan Diez spent two years as an assistant in Konstantin Grcic's studio in Munich before establishing his own office in 2003 from where he has realised numerous furniture, lighting, architectural elements and accessory projects.

Today, Diez's studio is a space for creative experimentation where practitioners from a wide variety of fields cooperate. The office's focus is on technical know-how and a strong commitment to sustainability: Stefan Diez defines his design approach through the "10 Circular Design Guidelines" which provide a guide to ensure that commercial products can be both ecologically and socially responsible.

Driven by curiosity, the DIEZ OFFICE team develops simple and contemporary solutions for complex problems. Diez's collaborations with popular manufacturers such as, for example, Rosendahl, Bree, Thonet, HAY, Vibia and Herman Miller have seen Diez win a variety of awards, including, among others, the Red Dot Best of the Best Award, the Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany and the IF Gold Award.

In addition to his design work Stefan Diez also headed the Industrial Design course at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and has taught at renowned universities in Germany and Sweden.
