Pierre Charpin
Born in Paris in 1962, Pierre Charpin studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Bourges. In the early 90s he decided to focus on furniture and object design - yet to this day his artistic disposition is a prominent part of his creations. For all, the play with shapes and colours makes the artist recognizable in his works. Charpin's portfolio is primarily simple, functional objects, whereby it is very important to Charpin to create emotionality. For the Scandinavian manufacturer Hay he created the PC Table Lamp as part of his PC series. Pierre Charpin works on experimental and industrial projects with equal enthusiasm, his works have been shown in exhibitions around the globe and are part of numerous museum collections. Charpin spreads his extensive knowledge as a lecturer at the French universities ESAD and ECAL. For his idea to use Styrofoam for the design of shelves and chairs, in 1995 he was awarded the "Valorization of Innovation in Furnishing" (VIA). With his glass carafe "Eau de Pari" in 2005 he won the competition of the Paris Waterworks: The citizens of Paris should be encouraged to drink more tap water. In 2017, Charpin was named Designer of the Year at the Maison & Objet trade fair. Today he lives and works in Ivry sur Seine on the edge of his birthplace Paris.
