FAQ
Is it possible to retrofit glides to an S 32 N/S 64 N Pure Materials?
A Thonet cantilever chair is specially produced to allow a retrofitting with plastic glides (transparent or black) with or without felt insert using the pre-punched drill holes, add an additional 11 mm to the overall height and cost 29,- EUR per set / chair. On older cantilever models produced before 2010, the Thonet frames were pre-punched as standard and the glides are installed as follows: With a 4.2 mm drill (available at any hardware store or as the special-hardened Thonet drill bits for Euro) bore holes in the marked locations. The felt pads can then be attached using the supplied self-tapping screws.
Why "S 32 N/S 64 N Pure Materials"?
We leave traces on our favorite furniture that we use frequently. Behind Pure Materials is natural wood and a particularly gentle handling of materials. The wooden surfaces are only oiled, the structure remains clear. Over time, a natural patina forms through use, giving each piece of furniture a unique look and making it one of a kind.
The timeless S 32 cantilever chair and S 64 cantilever chair were designed by Marcel Breuer during his time at Bauhaus and still captivate today with their distinctive mix of industrial steel tubing, natural wood and wickerwork. Manufactured by Thonet since the 1930s, the design has been slowly modified over the years, and today includes versions with or without armrests, with seat and backrest made of plastic mesh, with different metal finishes, types of wood and in the Pure Materials version. The latter is characterised, as the name implies, by the use of high quality natural materials. In terms of the S 32 N and the S 64 N Pure Materials, this is reflected by the synthetic wicker backrest and seat, and the associated contrast thus formed to the wooden parts of the frame and the armrests. The sustainably-grown oak and walnut is, save from oiling, natural, which gives it a velvety feel and soft look. In addition, the production method behind the Pure Materials Edition means that the objects acquire and maintain the stains and traces of time and thus become as much a companion as aid of life's long road. With the base frame made of tubular steel, the S 32 N and the S 64 N Pure Materials fit smoothly into Marcel Breuer's tubular steel furniture collection and thus are not only modern classics but continue the finest traditions of Bauhaus.
