About Matteo Fogale
Matteo Fogale was born to Italian parents in Montevideo, Uruguay, and grew up in an environment that was equally shaped by European influences and Latin American handicrafts. A fact reflected in his work today: Matteo Fogale repeatedly combines forms and materials from his homeland with the simple functionalism of the Scandinavian design tradition.
In 2001 Fogale moved to Italy and studied at the Leonardo da Vinci Art School and the IUAV University in Venice. In the years following his graduation he worked on numerous projects for design studios such as Patricia Urquiola, Nichetto & Partners, Barber & Osgerby and MAP Project Office.
He received the Wallpaper Design Award in 2015 for a collection of furniture and products created in collaboration with Laetitia de Allegri. Fogale is now based in London with his own design studio and, in addition to product and furniture design, has specialized in interior design, installation and various consulting activities.
In addition to commissions as a curator, Fogale teaches at schools such as Ravensbourne University London, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and Bath Spa University. Matteo Fogale designed the Caret rechargeable battery light for &Tradition.
