Louis Poulsen
The history of Louis Poulsen lights begins, effectively, in 1874, when Ludvig R. Poulsen founded a wine importing company. Follwoing his death in 1906, his nephew Louis Poulsen took over the company; initially focussing on metal and tool production, but soon also adding lamps to the range. The International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris, Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs & Industriels Modernes, 1924 was to be the starting point for the collaboration with Poul Henningsen, and in 1926 Louis Poulsen launched the first PH lamp. Since 1958, further PH lamps by Henningsen have been distributed by Louis Poulsen - and are still being marketed in re-editions. In addition, the manufacturer of designer lamps also produces works such as the AJ lamps by Arne Jacobsen from 1960 or the Verner Panton lamp Panthella from 1971, as well as numerous contemporary lighting designs. But Louis Poulsen is also active in the field of outdoor lighting, where concepts for lighting are developed in collaboration with architects as an integral part of buildings and outdoor facilities.
