Originating as they do from Milan, Giancarlo Fassina and Michele de Lucchi were more or less duty bound to create a design icon. Something they achieved with a great deal of almost effortless grace in the universally endearing form of their Tolomeo lamps for Artemide: a design concept which in addition to global critical acclaim and commercial success was awarded the internationally prestigious Compasso d'Oro. Since time immemorial Italian designer lamps have been considered not only as functional light sources, but also as cult objects which address different needs of different people in different locations. Artemide's "The Human Light" principle places the positive influence of light at the centre of their philosophy and attempts to use light to improve life quality and well-being. Or put another way: a lamp such as the Artemide Tolomeo Mega Terra can help reinforce the warm aura of a space. Thanks to its dimming function the light intensity of the Artemide Tolomeo floor lamp is effortlessly adjustable and thus indirect light for atmosphere is just as easy to achieve as a direct reading light.
