The designer Marcel Breuer is rightly considered one of the best and most influential architects and designers of the 20th century. His career began in Europe, moving over Switzerland and London to America which was to become his adopted home. Born in Pecs, Hungary, Marcel Breuer began his career in Germany: his first major breakthrough coming as head of the metal workshop at Bauhaus Dessau, a position from which he began the development of his legendary steel tube furniture collection. Inspired by a bicycle handlebar Marcel Breuer went on to develop numerous furniture items from the simple, industrial material, his nesting tables and several others of which featuring in the legendary 1930/31 catalogue by the German manufacturer Thonet. Still in production and available in 4 different sizes, all share a characteristic structure, but are available in a range of table tops including MDF board, solid wood or glass. The Thonet glass B 9 nesting tables with their transparent reduction impress in the bedroom as a bedside table, in the hallway as a shelf for keys and various little things or in the living room as a minimalist coffee table - and are available individually or as a set.
