Kartell Shelving

Kartell shelves are not only practical helpers, but are simultaneously works of art, which bring an extravagant touch to any interior. The shelving by Ron Arad with the sonorous names Bookworm or Lovely Rita, for example, have firmly established themselves as practical, aesthetic bookshelves whose poppy and unconventional design brings a little fun to any space. One of the most famous Kartell designs is without question the Kartell Componibili by Anna Castelli Ferrieri. On the market since 1969, they define the very phase in which Kartell began to specialize in plastic furniture designs: after the founding of the company in 1949 by the chemist Giulio Castelli, plastic auto parts were first produced before the product range expanded steadily in subsequent years. In addition to Componibili containers, the Kartell portfolio features numerous further designer shelving systems.

...The Road Ahead: Reimagining Mobility opens at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, 2 East 91st Street, New York, New York 10128 on Friday December 14th and runs until Sunday March 31st "12 Shelves" at the Aram Gallery, London, England Arguably the fact that the smow blog office has no shelving foretold that the Aram Gallery's new exhibition would appear in this list; however, knowing the attention the Aram Gallery (generally) take when composing their exhibitions, and their promise that all 12 shelving projects presented have arisen in the past five years and therefore allow for 12 contemporary explorations of the possibilities of shelving and/or understandings of shelving, we probably would have been attracted by it even if we had a surfeit of shelving and storage space... And that despite the fact that apart form the fact it features 12 shelving proposals ...
