Seat Pad for J Chairs

The Hay J family gives the classic Windsor chair a Scandinavian feel

The so-called J Collection from the Danish manufacturer Hay includes a number of new editions of Danish design classics: wooden chairs that were designed by various designers during the 1960s in the context of the so-called Association of Danish Consumer Cooperatives (FBD), and united in their proximity to the classic Windsor chair.

The head of the FBD furniture department was the carpenter and designer Borge Mørgensen, who designed the J41 from the Hay J Collection. His colleagues Poul M. Volther and Folke Pålsson also designed models of today's Hay J series. The goal then was to produce furniture that meets the requirements and financial means of an "average family". And be versatile. For this purpose, the design had a functional, simple orientation, so that the production costs were kept low. Today the chairs of the J Collection are popular classics in the annals of Danish design history and are being reissued through Hay on account of their timeless elegance and simple functional design.
