Typically of a Jean Prouvé, the comfortable Fauteuil de Salon from Vitra has a simple design language and the characteristically reinforced rear legs with a graceful front frame: the designer Prouvé found this combination of structural requirements to be the most sensible, which brings an incomparable recognition value to the Vitra lounge chair and much of his further Mid-century furniture.

Rediscovered in the archives of the French designer Jean Prouvé, the Fauteuil de Salon is being re-issued by Vitra in a diverse and modern colour scheme. The restrained design language and the frame are characteristic of Jean Prouvé's furniture; for example the Standard and Chaise Tout Bois Vitra chairs. The architectural concept of the design is based on purely structural considerations for stability and strength: as the rear legs are subject to the greatest stress, these were designed with triangular, flat legs made of sheet steel, while thin tubular steel legs could be used on the front due to the lower stress.
