The Italian lamp manufacturer Artemide has always stood for innovation and high quality standards and the comany's product range extends from "Purely functionally" to "indescribably decorative" and sometimes, as in the case of Richard Sappers Tizio Lamp Micro, both apply in equal measure. The smallest of the Tizio lamp series, but in no way reduced in terms of greatness.

Design Story

The fact that a sophisticated Italian design object is normally not only functional, but is often distinguished all by particular aesthetic charm, is widely known. Just as it is widely known that such applies specifically to the lighting designs of Italian manufacturer Artemide. Based near Milan Artemide's portfolio represents the forefront in the global lighting design market, both in terms of technology as well as aesthetics. One of the most successful products in that portfolio is the desk lamp Tizio. Designed in 1972 by the German industrial designer Richard Sapper the innovation in the Artemide Tizio comprises a transformer hidden in the base of the lamp and which supplies the halogen lamp a low-voltage via current conducting arms - a design feature which makes unsightly cables unnecessary. With this technique the Tizio was the first halogen lamp of its kind and is now not only considered a design classic, but remains one of the best-selling lamps ever produced. In addition Tizio brought its creator Richard Sapper a coveted Compasso d'Oro, not that Tizio is Richard Sapper's only work of note. As one of Europe's leading industrial designers Sapper has worked with clients as varied as IBM, Lenovo, Fiat or the tire manufacturer Pirelli. Richard Sapper's products are generally characterized by a combination of technical innovation and a clear, well-defined design: something the Tizio desk lamp demonstrates par excellence. The Tizio Micro, as the smallest version of the Tizio lamp series, thus provides the optimum illumination for the intelligently designed workspace.
