Daniel Rybakken & Andreas Engesvik
Born in Oslo in 1984 Daniel Rybakken initially studied architecture in Oslo before switching to the School of Design and Craft in Gothenburg, Sweden. Daniel has been active with his own design studio since 2008 and has received numerous awards such as the renowned Bruno Mathsson Design Prize in 2011. At the interface between art and design, Rybakken often deals with the effects of daylight and uses this for his designs.
Andreas Engesvik, also born in Oslo, first studied art history in Bergen and then design at the National College of Art and Design. In 2000 he co-founded the influential design studio Norway Says, which brought design from Norway to international success. With his own design studio, he has been successfully active in various areas such as furniture, product and industrial design since 2009. In addition to numerous awards, he has held various teaching positions including a visiting professorship at the University College of Art in Stockholm in 2012. Engesvik has completed numerous projects for a roster of international clients including Hay, Muuto, Iittala, Fogia and Herman Miller.
Norwegian designers Daniel Rybakken and Andreas Engesvik follow their very own concept of minimalism, in which design and construction go hand in hand. Andreas Engesvik and Daniel Rybakken designed the Arbor Sofa and the Arbor armchair for Hay.
