DCW means Dining Chair Wood.
The Vitra DCW chair is an extremely prominent representative of the Plywood Group, a collection of chairs Charles and Ray Eames developed in the years 1945/46. At that time the designers were looking for a method for achieving the three-dimensional deformation of plywood and carried out numerous experiments. The result was the Plywood Chairs: in addition to the DCW the collection also includes the LCW, the DCM chair and the CTM table, all of which are regarded today as Vitra design classics. The special manufacturing process enables the seat and backrest to be adapted to the shape of the human body, thus ensuring a particularly high sitting comfort, a comfort reinforced by the DCW's flexible backrest.
