What does LCW Calf's skin mean?

LCW means Lounge Chair Wood with calf's skin.

Design Story

After several years of experiments with moulded plywood Charles and Ray Eames developed in 1945/46 their Plywood Group. Manufactured and distributed by Vitra the Plywood Group also includes the LCW and the LCW Calf's Skin. All chairs in the Vitra Plywood Group are designed to conform to the shape of the human body, thus enabling a pleasant and relaxing seating experience. The deep LCW chairs place the sitter close to the ground and are, and as with all classic lounge chairs, slightly inclined, thus adding to the comfort of the object. A comfort added to in the case of the LCW Calf's Skin by the extravagantly decadent hide covers.
