As previously noted the Werkbund Berlin Galerie is currently hosting an exhibition devoted to the ess.tee.tisch t-6500 from Swiss manufacturer Horgenglarus. Originally designed in 1951 by Jürg Bally the ess.tee.tisch is a height adjustable table operated by an ingeniously simple mechanism and a product that was awarded a Gute Form Award by the Swiss Werkbund in 1955 for its combination of practicality, functionality and aesthetic charm. The exhibition in Berlin presents an updated version of Bally's original design developed, or perhaps better put, edited by Zurich based designer and engineer Daniel Hunziker. A re-edition that maintains the allure of the original, just in a more durable, stable object.
In addition to presenting two examples of the ess.tee.tisch t-6500 and photographs which accentuate the essence of the work, the principle highlight of the exhibition is the detailed "documentation" which as a sort of informal catalogue helps explain the background to the object and in doing so helps introduce Jürg Bally as a designer and places the ess.tee.tisch t-6500 in context of his life and work.
ess.tee.tisch by Jürg Bally can be viewed at the Werkbund Berlin Galerie, Goethestraße 13, 10623, Berlin until Tuesday June 3rd.
