On Friday March 14th blickfang Stuttgart opens its doors to the public for the 22nd edition of the consumer design fair.
Inaugurated in Stuttgart in 1992 by “a couple of “”fools”” – their words, not ours – blickfang has gone on to grow beyond its native city and can now be found throughout the year in locations as varied and widespread as Basel, Zürich, Copenhagen, Vienna, Hamburg and, most recently, Munich.
Blickfang Stuttgart remains however a special occasion.
In addition to the usual mix of furniture, jewellery, fashion and lighting design blickfang Stuttgart 2014 features the premier of blickfang Küche – a specially selected showcase of objects and projects devoted to the kitchen, and those things we do in the kitchen.
A particular highlight for us at blickfang Stuttgart 2014 promises to be the blickfang Selected section presenting as it does projects by London based designer Ian McIntyre, Amsterdam based Lex Pott, Kassel’s Tim Mackerodt and Berlin based Silvia Terhedebrügge. A selection of designers that, for us, is much stronger than the Selected category has been in recent blickfang editions.
And the best bit is that in comparison to the dull old trade fairs we normally visit, at blickfang you can not only experience cutting edge contemporary international design. But if you like it… buy it. Direct from the designer.
Blickfang Stuttgart 2014 runs at the Liederhalle, Berliner Platz 1-3, 70174 Stuttgart from Friday March 14th until Sunday March 16th
