For some July is all about relaxing, enjoying the sun and drinking G+Ts under a Droog Shadylace parasol.
For the (smow)blog team July means art and design college annual exhibitions.
However for reasons unfathomable to us most Germanic colleges insist on holding their exhibitions on the same weekend.
Obviously Germany design schools can develop everything: except a joined-up, national student exhibition plan.
Fortuitously amongst the shows that have caught our attention this year there is a little bit of play and so we can organise a small summer tour.
The (smow) summer tour begins at HFBK Hamburg which hosts its annual exhibition from July 8th to July 11th before on July 9th and 10th the students of the Fachhochschule Hannover show what they can do.
It them gets a little complicated, but from 14-18 July the HfG Karslruhe opens it doors, 15-18th Bauhaus Weimar once again ask if their Bauhaus really is better than yours and then on the 17th and 18th Burg Giebichenstein students present their contribution to Halle’s attempt to establish itself as Germany’s Design City.
It’s a busy schedule. And hopefully one that is worth the effort.
We’ll keep you updated.
