Following their defeat of Eero Saarinen in their opening match, Charles and Ray Eames found themselves up against another old companion in the form of Alexander Girard in this all important second group match in the 2010 (smow) designer furniture world cup.
Opening with a classic Plywood group combination of LCW and CTM Charles and Ray Eames moved steadily towards their former Herman Miller colleague. Complimenting the LCW chair and CTM table with an LCM chair Charles and Ray Eames seemed destined to take a deserved lead before Alexander Girard countered with some delightful Toostripe cloth.
Following their previous collaboration on the La Fonda del Sol restaurant in New York both Girard and the Eames' had obviously developed a good feeling for one another's work and so it came as no surprise that the longer the contest ran, the more they cancelled one another out.
In the end a draw that neither could be happy about; but also about which neither could complain.
