Belux

The Swiss company Belux was founded in 1970 and initially manufactured workshop lights, before switching their focus to designer lighting for work and domestic areas 10 years later. From the very outset Belux concentrated on experimenting towards new developments and never shied away from the associated risks; whereby the cooperation with the Swiss designer Hannes Wettstein was formative. 1982 saw the international breakthrough with the first low-voltage cable system. Shortly afterwards, Belux received the license to manufacture extravagant furniture and objects from the Italian designer group Memphis around Ettore Sottsass and Michele de Lucchi. In the 1990s in particular, Belux caused a sensation with a number of innovations, including developing the cost-effective lighting solution Economy for offices and the Uptown lamp by Reto Schöpfer, the introduction of which in 1996 saw energy-saving fluorescent lamps establish themselves in the living area. When planning projects with Belux the focus is on the overall concept: Belux lighting solutions are not used as pure light sources, but as an element of room design. The unique Belux light architecture is created with the help of intelligent lighting instruments that are characterized by energy-efficient lighting technology, functionality, high-quality materials and careful processing.
